What should I do if my water tax bill seems too high?
Compare the water meter reading marked on your bill for the month of last December with the number marked on your water meter at the present time.
- If the number marked on the bill is greater than the one on your water meter at that time, contact 311.
- If the number marked on your water meter is greater than the one marked on your bill, check your water consumption or your plumbing for leaks.
- Shut off all the water intakes (sprinkler, faucet, shower, toilet, etc.) and then check the movable indicator on your water meter. If it moves even when no water is being used by you or a family member, you should check your plumbing.
- You can also check the number marked on your water meter before going to bed and compare it to what is marked when you wake up the next day. If you haven't used the water during the night, the number shouldn't have changed. If it did, you should check your plumbing.
